An indulgence Seven years ago, Nothing Magazine published its first issue. It took a lot of work and planning from a lot of dedicated people, all of whom have been gone from our school so long no one here now even knows their names, but we managed, and we are proud of what we accomplished. Many of them returned to contribute to this final issue, which is something that astounded me. Creating this mattered to them more than I knew. Over the years, the staff of the magazine changed, people came and went, some more dedicated than others. The one thing that has never changed is that it takes a lot of time, dedication, and hard work to publish this magazine. All of this seems to be in short supply now and so it is with much regret, a lot of hand-wringing, and a heavy heart that I am announcing this as the Final Issue of Nothing Magazine, at least in this incarnation. I have fond memories of working on Nothing Magazine with a wide variety of students whom I would not have gotten to know so well had it not been for our shared interest in journalism and shared visions of producing a magazine celebrating our school -- now schools -- that we could be proud of. We have not always realized our visions, and that striving eventually proved to be too much for most people, myself included. What you will find in this issue are celebrations of our past, a history of this magazine, a few notes, features, and articles from past contributors, editors, and founders of the magazine, who have graciously found time not only to talk to me again but to contribute material. I am grateful to all of them. There are also a few familiar features and some articles that hold true to the spirit and vision of the magazine. There's also the odd previously-unpublished article here and there I found in our archives. Nothing Magazine was always intended to be a student-run, student-published magazine. Without any students now willing to work on it, to bleed and sweat and cry for it, well, it only makes sense that we shut this production down. It is far too consuming for me to create by myself (though I admit I like having total creative control). Maybe in a few days, months, or years a group of people will come along and wonder why there's no school magazine or newspaper and want to do something about it, want to build a new spirit and a new vision. When that happens, I will be here, ready to turn on the machines again and see what we can produce. Until then, it has been a strange, rocky, exhausting, meaningful, exciting few years building Nothing from nothing and to nothing seeing Nothing return. --Healy Front cover: composite image of past Nothing staff members, by Lucie Smrktová and Veronika Šigutová (George Stroll really likes this picture of me and insisted I use it, and who am I to argue with George Stroll?)
