Mr Student Council Man! What's the most exciting or interesting idea you have for student council to implement in the upcoming months? To paraphrase Kennedy, if we ask not what student council can do for us but what we can do for student council, what can we do to support the efforts of your council? As the student council now intends to increase the amount of positive influence we can have on the school, I would say that the help we need right now is from the students. I sometimes realize that the meetings are carried out only by the voices of the student representatives. However, quality meetings should be carried out by the voices of numerous students--the student ‘representatives’ must be able to ‘represent’ their classmates. Therefore, I would kindly encourage the readers of Nothing Magazine to actively communicate with their class representatives and to give them a pat on the back, because they all work incredibly hard for everybody. Hmm… I only have a general idea of the upcoming months because we have not yet met this [fiscal] year. However, I can promise you that we will continue to implement exciting ideas in the upcoming months, such as a possible Easter event or a sports day. Those were ideas approved by the council last year. It’s sometimes quite difficult to come up with events which involve the entire school, as the majority of the council has to agree upon it unanimously… which doesn’t happen so frequently. Mr Kim, representin' Do you think you'll still be able to lead student council in your DP2 year? I could, but I don’t aim to. Although I plan on being a member of the student council, it would be nice if a new president were elected. The student council will have to elect a new leader anyway when I graduate. However, I think that doing that in the next school year, when I am still in this school, will provide a smoother transition for the future student councils. By doing so, I will be able to help the new president when he/she does not know what to do, and generally guide the next student council to the right path, so it doesn’t fall apart when I graduate. What's your favorite mythical creature and why? An IB student who takes challenging subjects, gets 9 hours of sleep every day, has a life, and ends up getting a 45 (chuckles). Most, if not all, IB students would agree with me. That creature must be mythical because an ordinary human being would not be capable of managing all of that at one time. I have never deeply thought about this topic because mythical creatures were not my thing, but if that mythical IB student existed, I would totally admire it.
